DEFINING SUBARU

Image Preview

Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA), is the exclusive United States marketer of Subaru products manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd. of Japan.  Headquartered in Cherry Hill, NJ, SOA serves nearly 600 dealers nationwide.

Subaru is the Japanese name for Pleiades, which roughly translated to English means to unite or to gather together.  Pleiades is a star cluster in the Taurus constellation; which is echoed in Subaru’s six-star badge.  In Greek mythology, Atlas’ daughters combining formed the star cluster, Pleiades.  It is also known as the “Seven Sisters”; which has seven stars visible to the naked eye.

In 1953, five Japanese companies merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.  The new corporation adopted the “Subaru” cluster of six stars as the official logo for its automobile line.  The large star represents Fuji Heavy Industries and the five smaller stars represent the current five companies that have united under the FHI group.

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. has four divisions.  Its Automobile division has been under the Subaru name since 1958.  FHI manufactures and markets Subaru automobiles to 100 countries via its 1,970 dealers worldwide.  The Aerospace division is a major contractor of aircraft, helicopters and related parts and service to the Defense Agency of Japan.  Producing equipment including generators, water pumps and engines for industrial, agricultural and recreational applications is the Industrial Products division.  Last but not least, the Transportation Equipment division develops double- and high-decker buses, luxury tour buses and inner city buses; primarily exported to Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa.  Today, the reliability of the Subaru brand name is reflected in the more than 10 million vehicles sold to satisfied clients worldwide.

CARE FOR YOUR CAR IN MAY!

After a winter that did not want to end, it is important to get your Subaru in tip-top shape for the summer months.  Spring is a good time to replace worn out wiper blades to increase visibility.  If wipers are torn they can damage your windshield.  Have your antifreeze tested.  This prevents your coolant from boiling in the summer.  Make sure you check the condition of your tires as well as the tire pressures.  Temperature changes can affect tire pressure.  The amount of air in your tires can maximize your gas mileage and save wear and tear on them as well!

TRIBUTE TO OUR TROOPS

Hello everyone! My name is Victoria MacKenzie, otherwise known as “Bic”, and I work in the office here at Premier Subaru. With the help of our Senior Sales Consultant, Barbara Mullen, who most of you know as “Nama”, we wanted to take some time to recognize two important days in this upcoming month of May. Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17th and Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th.

Like many families across the United States, both Barbara and I have a family member who has been deployed multiple times in this War on Terrorism; my father, (left) Master Chief Petty Officer Charles MacKenzie, and Barbara’s son, (right) Chief Petty Officer Daniel Hanaczewski. Both men are active duty in the United States Navy.

They have spent many months away from home in other countries and have spent long hours working towards a better future for everyone. So Barbara and I would like to use this opportunity to say that we miss you both and hope to have you home soon. Be safe, stay strong and we love you. Hooah!”

 (U.S. Navy Seabee’s – Camp Liberty, Baghdad, IraqFebruary 10, 2008)

Everyone here at Premier Subaru would like to thank the men and women of our Armed forces for doing the jobs they do, day in and day out, over in Iraq, Afghanistan, and among other places of deployment. They work very hard to ensure the safety of our country and we would like to take the time to recognize them as well as their families for their dedication, services and sacrifices.

And even though “thank you” doesn’t always seem like enough to say, we hope that everyone will take a moment and find a way to show their appreciation for these men and women and all that they do to ensure our freedom. Not only on Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, but all year long.

EMPLOYEE PROFILE

This month’s Employee Profile is on one of our parts associates who has been here for almost 5 years.  Chris Elwell started in the auto business almost 10 years ago, working as a detailer for Faricelli Motors in Branford.  He also has spent time as an HVAC parts truck driver, as well as other various jobs.  He found an ad in the local paper for Premier Subaru for an auto detailer/service valet position.  Since coming on board with Premier Subaru, he has several different titles, including service advisor, parts counterperson, parts delivery, wholesale parts representative, and Internet Parts Salesperson.  His current position incorporates the dual roles of Internet Parts Sales and Counterperson.  He likes working here because of the overall atmosphere.  He says there really is nothing that he would change about his position here.

When not at Premier Subaru, Chris has many hobbies.  Snowboarding, Mountain Biking, Tennis, Trail Running, and going to the gym.  He is also presently going to school for massage therapy.

NAMA SAYS

This month Nama has several holidays that arrive and spark reflection. First up is Mother’s Day. My mom passed away many years ago but there are times I still feel her looking over my shoulder. She was a life loving, intelligent, caring woman who put family first always.

As the oldest child I hold many memories that I share with my siblings. My only regret is not knowing her as an adult. As my own children have grown and given me wonderful grandchildren and a few gray hairs along the way I sometimes marvel at how our relationships have changed over the years.

We went through the early years of discovery, to the rebellious teenaged years, to adulthood somehow managing to come through it all as true friends who are there for each other.

As you watch your daughters and sons grow hopefully your family will flourish the same way.  It’s a wonderful life!

Also we honor our veterans this month. I still get choked up hearing the “Star Spangled Banner” realizing the importance of those who serve our country keeping our independence and freedom.

My son serves proudly as a medic on the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman. He enlisted right out of high school and can retire in a few years. It’s not an easy life –especially for the families. Dad’s gone 6-8 months, sometimes missing milestones in his children’s lives.

Dan’s two daughters were here for a long weekend last month – it’s a first! All five grandkids were present and accounted for! I hadn’t seen Catherine who’s two in about a year and a half. She sure has grown! She and her mom live in Texas and it was great to see them and Alicia from Virginia.

The first thing Alicia asked me was “Am I getting lobster?” So we had our usual dinner at Lenny’s.  All behaved well and ate, laughed, and shared stories.

That Saturday Nama took the day off to attend Kayla’s sixth birthday party at the Connecticut Defenders ball game in Norwich.  Her gift was a search for the Holy Grail – pink cowboy boots! As you can see, Nama found them and Kayla immediately put them on.

Pops jokes that she’s a true redneck – after all she’s got the boots, is missing a front tooth, likes to watch bull riding on TV and requests car crash videos on the computer.

She had a great day surrounded by her cousins and even got to parade around the field before the game with the mascot, Cutter.

Happy birthday to all who celebrate this month and congratulations to all our new owners.

Nama says – take some time this month to appreciate all we have!

CUSTOMER'S CORNER

Excerpts from Happy Customers!

Hi Robert,

Joe and I are so impressed with Subaru, and especially liked working with you!  You put up with Joe’s joking with you and were honest and forthright.  Thanks again for your service and honesty, and fun!

-         Pat Reilly

I would just like let everyone at Subaru that the salesman that sold us the car at Premier Subaru was absolutely fantastic.  I actually was interested in getting a Honda but the salesman handled himself like I've never seen a salesman do before.  The name of the gentlemen was Adam Arsenault.  I hope you appreciate your talented employees.  I will continue to purchase Subarus if the car turns out to be as good as I hope.
