Takata Airbag Recall

Dear Owners,

Safety has been, and always will be, the driving force within every Subaru - from engineering to real-world results. It is one of the reasons you and your family have put trust in our brand, and we want to assure you that you have made the right choice. To stay true to our values, we are informing our owners of the Takata supplied airbag inflator recall - the largest recall in automotive history, currently affecting vehicles across the industry - and how your Subaru may be impacted.

This recall only relates to the passenger-side front airbag in certain Subaru vehicles, and does not affect our driver-side front airbags, which were not equipped with a Takata inflator. Therefore, if your vehicle requires a recall service, we recommend that occupants not use the front-passenger seat until the repair is performed.

To see if your vehicle has an open recall, use the VIN Search Tool. We encourage you to re-check every three months for updates. You can learn more about this recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration by clicking the link below.

NHTSA - Takata airbag recall

AIRBAG RECALL INSTRUCTIONS:

We want our customers HAPPY! To do that, it is important to be on the same page since the airbag recall is a complicated and dangerous repair!

  • PREMIER REQUIRES 3 HOURS FOR COMPLETION OF THE AIRBAG DUE TO THE COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB AND TO ACCOUNT FOR ISSUES. MOST OF THESE VEHICLES BEING RECALLED ARE OLDER - MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD - AND THE PARTS BECOME BRITTLE. SO, TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE, WE PREFER THIS AMOUNT OF TIME TO ENSURE THAT THE JOB IS DONE CORRECTLY. o THIS TIME MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM THE SUBARU RECALL LETTER - BUT, IT IS CLEAR IN THE LETTER THAN THE "IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME TO ALLOW YOUR RETAILER FLEXIBILITY IN SCHEDULING"
  • TO ENSURE MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY AND TO SAFEGUARD OUR CLIENT'S INFORMATION AND PERSONAL EFFECTS - GLOVEBOXES AND CENTER CONSOLES MUST BE COMPLETELY CLEANED OUT PRIOR TO DROPPING OFF A VEHICLE. o UNFORTUNATELY, IF A CUSTOMER HAS NOT CLEANED OUT THEIR GLOVEBOX OR CENTER CONSOLE, INSURANCE REGULATIONS MAY PROHIBIT US FROM COMPLETING THE JOB.
  • PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT RADIOS WILL BE DISCONNECTED AND REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. UPON RECONNECTING, THE RADIO PRESETS AND THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY AND / OR NAVIGATION MAP SETTINGS MAY HAVE TO BE RESET BY THE CUSTOMER. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS CANNOT BE PREVENTED.
