About Jeff Irzyk
Award-Winning Shoreline Subaru Product Specialist
& Event Organizer

Jeff Irzyk and Bob Alvine unloading food drive donations at CCA in New Haven, CT.

A resident of Guilford himself, Jeff enjoys meeting fellow shoreline residents and getting involved in organizing events in the community.  Here at Premier, he's an integral part of our food drives and holiday toy drives.

Already an appreciator of fine art, (his fiancee and his brother are artists themselves), Jeff jumped at the opportunity when his customer Joanne McCarty asked him about putting something together for her fellow Subaru-driving artists. (Karen also purchased her car from Jeff Irzyk.)

When not helping folks get the right Subaru at Premier, Jeff enjoys spending time working in his yard, studying martial arts and preparing his home for the arrival of his daughter, who is expected in August, 2011.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for this exciting event!  Check out our first Geoff Fox featured artist interview with Joanne McCarty below!

About the Artists:

Joanne McCarty

Subaru:  2010 Forester

Preferred Media: Watercolor and Pastel
Location:  Clinton, CT

She likes to paint En Plein Air and feel the character of the atmosphere. She has painted on the Connecticut shoreline, in the Caribbean, and Europe.  She feels her work has a certain naiveté and spontaneity about it. She is able to leave her real world behind when she starts a new piece. According to Joanne, painting truly "takes me out of myself."  Joanne has studied with such artists as Judi Betts, the late Bill Steeves, Chein Fei, Joann Ballinger, and Natalie Pfannstiehl.

Subaru:
2010 Forester
Preferred Media: Oil and Pastel
Location:  Madison, CT

Karen lives in Madison, CT where she enjoys painting both in oil and pastel, especially En Plein Air whenever possible.  She has painted on location with Sam D'Aburoso in Tuscany and with Charles Gruppé in Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Spain. She has also studied with such artists as Lou Bonamarte, Jurgen Geith, Joann Ballinger and Gerald Caron, to name a few. The Poet, Archibald MacLeish, wrote, "A poem should not mean, but be." Karen feels this is also true of a successful painting.

Sandra Kensler

Subaru:  2004 Forester
Prefer
red Media: Oils
Location:  Madison, CT

Sandra came to us from Indiana in 1990 and currently lives and has her studio in Madison, CT. She has exhibited in New England all along the shoreline in Connecticut, in New York City, and Wisconsin. She says: "The world Excites me and I want to express how I feel about it by painting it. I simplify my paintings by exaggerating color and shape. I crop tightly and pare down whenever I can. The  buildings in cities and their light and shadows inspire me. I exaggerate long roads,       afternoon and morning shadows, and the shapes defined by trees in the country." Sandra  paints almost exclusively with oils.

Subaru:  2006 Forester
Preferred Media: Acrylic, watercolor, pastel and oil

Location:  Madison, CT

Elizabeth "Mike" Boyd - Works both literally and abstractly. She has a wide array of works in all media.  Her landscape and still life are done in acrylic, watercolor, pastel and oil.  They are very traditional and a joy to do.  Her abstract work is executed with mixed media and collage. These are cerebral and less predictable. The transitions between the literal and abstract reinforce each other, and, one hopes, bring out the best in each.  She has studied with various teacher such as Theodore Roszak and Frank Vincent DuMond who were the most influential to her works.

Nancy Schwartz

Subaru:  2004 Forester
Location:  Madison, CT

Nancy lives and maintains her studio in Madison, CT. She views her paintings as containing a sense of quietness. She paints to portray this quality and it provides the underlying theme for most of her work. She has studied drawing with the late Alan Wood-Thomas and painting with the late Robert Brackman. Nancy "considers painting a joy, a privilege and a necessary part of her life".

About the Event:

These women all run into each other quite a bit because they have many things in common- all are female artists who live here on the Connecticut shoreline that have won numerous awards and recognition for their paintings.

Only recently, however, did they realize that they all have found the same solution for getting themselves, their materials, and their paintings safely where they need to be.  That solution? Subaru.

Paints.  Large canvases.  Easels.  Paintbrushes.  When you want to let nature inspire you in person, these are the bulky items you need to transport.   And roads aren't typically built to accommodate access to inspiration; the most beautiful landscapes aren't usually the easiest to get to.  When you want to share your inspiration with others, you have to get the art to them, too.

Each of these women found that the cavernous interiors of Subaru's wagons and SUVs accommodated all of the tools of their trade.  They also found that no matter what the season, Subaru's legendary symmetrical-all-wheel-drive system makes getting anywhere from picturesque, snowy, woodlands to downtown art galleries easy.

Join us on Sunday, October 2nd to see the artwork and the cars that make it possible.  From 11 am to 4 pm, the original paintings and Subarus that transport it will be on display.  The paintings and many Subarus will be available for purchase.  While you're here you can enjoy some of Bishop's Orchards' delicious apple cider and donuts and see Jeff Irzyk for a chance to win 6 free oil changes.
