Premier Invests in Subaru Brake Repair Equipment

This on-car brake lathe allows certified technicians to turn your rotors while still on your vehicle.  Rotors turned after being removed from the vehicle can cause unwanted pulsation or vibrations and uneven wear of brake pads because they not ground in alignment with all other brake components while still attached to your car or suv. The video shows the equipment unpacked and ready to use in our service department.
A brake pad might be a small component, but it is definitely a strong and resistant one. Made from especially hard materials, each brake pad on your car comes into contact with the brake rotor whenever you press the brakes, squeezing the rotor until it stops, over and over again, hundreds of thousands of times during its lifetime. However, even though pads are made from durable materials, they need attention and maintenance to be able to deliver constant performance and they also need to be regularly maintained - here are some details.

Subaru Brake Repair & Maintenance

The brakes being such an essential component of your car, they need to be regularly checked and maintained to ensure proper functioning. The components of the braking system include the pads, the calipers, the rotors, the master cylinder and the brake line and any brake system needs brake fluid, also known as hydraulic fluid, to ensure proper moving under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.

The maintenance of the system must include the visual inspection of all the components before any longer trip, a more detailed inspection, ideally performed by a professional every 12,000 miles, and the replacement of the brake fluid every 25,000 miles (the intervals might be different for different car models, the main source of information in this respect being the car’s manual). An inspection of the brake pads should be performed after each event that required you to stomp on the brakes – one extremely heavy braking can be enough to ruin the pads.

Your driving style will also determine how long your brake pads will last and how much wear and tear your brake system is exposed to – trying to anticipate the next move of the driver in the car on front of you as well as the actions of the drivers in adjacent lanes will help you avoid having to stomp on the brakes and paying attention to the signs informing you that you will have to stop to give way will also help you avoid sudden braking. Using your engine brakes whenever you can will also protect your brakes and so will paying attention to keeping the right distance between your car and the one in front of you.

Signs You Need New Brakes

In most cases, brake pads do not throw in the towel just like that; they send you messages in the form of sounds and changes in the car’s behavior – here is what to pay attention to:

Strange noises coming from the brakes – any squealing or squeaking that you hear when you put on the brakes might indicate a fault of the pads and needs your immediate attention. A deep, grinding metal sound is also a sign that the pads have lost their efficiency

The indicator light on your dashboard comes up – modern cars are equipped with sensors that detect wear and tear on the pads, so don’t neglect the sign and take your car to brake service to get the brakes and the pads checked and replaced if necessary can be a life-saver

You notice vibrations when you press the brake pedal – your brake pedal must not vibrate when you press it and the problem is most probably caused by the pads, so you need brake repair as soon as possible

Longer braking distance – a very dangerous symptom that cannot be neglected.
